Vamana Karma
Classical therapeutic emesis procedure for systemic Kapha elimination and upper respiratory/gastric purification.
Traditional Context & Classical Authority
Vamana is the primary shodhana (cleansing) procedure prescribed in Charaka Samhita for eradicating deeply seated Kapha toxins from the stomach and respiratory channels.
What the Therapy Involves
Administered after precise internal oleation (Snehapana) and sudation (Swedana). Carefully monitored herbal decoctions induce controlled therapeutic elimination, cleansing the thoracic cavities and resetting the metabolic threshold.
Who May Consider Consultation for Vamana Karma
Traditionally indicated in classical Ayurvedic literature for the following health complaints (subject to individualized Nadi evaluation):
Requires 3 to 7 days of medicated ghee consumption (Snehapana) followed by full-body herbal steam to liquefy systemic toxins.
Strict Samsarjana Krama (graduated dietary restoration) starting with thin rice water (Manda) and progressing over 3 to 7 days.
Consult for Vamana Karma
Prior constitutional assessment is required before commencing any Panchakarma procedure to determine appropriateness and dosing.
